Time flies. We're in the last week of the first month of the last year of the millennium. Confused? Chuck it. With the new year kicking off, life's on to a fresh start. New parties, new movies, new seasons and new friends. With life getting faster and things getting more spiced up, we present the current happenings in Boomtown. First Prom The Sydenham students council is hosting two of the biggest events of this college. The Prom on the 29th of this month and the Annual day which is on the 1st of February... this is for the first time in the history of this college that a Prom is being organized and that also on such a large scale. The venue for the event could not have been better. The Army Officers' Club at Navy Nagar and for those who do not know of the place seeing is believing, lush green lawns with a gazebo in one corner and right up ahead is the sea. Nothing could have been better. Win a Beetle! The Beetle forever. A big prize in store. India's premier and No. 1 internet contesting web-site, www.contests2win.com, today announced "The Close-up Love Bug contest", an innovative and interactive contest for it's young users. The contest, which begins from January 21, 2000, is the first of its kind contest targeted specially at the youth and this would be the first contest on the net where such a big prize -- The Volkswagen Beetle, is being given away. It would focus on the 'play to win' aspect of creativity and uniqueness, making it a lovable and memorable contest. The contest will run on www.contests2win.com till February 20, 2000. An interesting feature of the contest is a specially designed Volkswagen Beetle done up in a retro 60's flower power look, in association with Close-up and would be driven around four net savvy cities of India - Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore and Delhi. The Volkswagen Beetle would be spotted at all prominent colleges, theatres and other youth hangouts in Mumbai from January 21-25; Pune from January 26-30; Bangalore from February 1-5 and in Delhi from February 10-14, Valentine's Day. More Masti After a period of two years, Sony Music is releasing a sequel to the massive hit Dance Masti, in a cheekily titled album called "The Return Of Dance Masti". This new album has been produced by the same successful team, "Instant Karma", comprising of Farhad Wadia, Ehsaan Noorani and Loy Mendonca. The album also features a wide range of talented vocalists like Shankar Mahadevan, Shaan and Mahalakshmi Iyer. "The Return Of Dance Masti" epitomises the best of traditional tunes and contemporary dance beats. The album features 10 new songs that are interpretations of the evergreen seventies classics. The point to note is that the original compositions of each of these tracks have been retained. The only addition being, that they have been enhanced with a funky nineties twist and a lot of "Masti"(fun). Musically, The Return of Dance Masti covers new ground by incorporating cutting edge club sounds like Drum 'N' Bass, Ambient Trance and Euro, wedged with classic Indian tunes. Therefore this album definitely personifies a quantum leap in technology terms, combining electronic influences with live sounds of the Tabla, Dhil, Flute, Saxaphone and guitar. Quick Surf |
