Nethra Raghuraman, Actresss
How did you get into television?
I screen tested for the role and was selected. This was a long time back. Things just fell into place recently and we started shooting. It's a good serial.
Your serial on air?
Yehi Tho Pyaar Hai.
What do you like/dislike about your profession?
It gives me a big high each time I give a good performance. I enjoy giving life to my character. I dislike the fact that there are times when you are required to overact or overdo things for some scenes which are very unreal and stupid. Like certain gestures are not used in normal, day-to-day life situations. I enjoy doing something true to life.
What do you like/dislike about television?
It's a mass media and helps to reach out to millions of people. However, the look is not considered very important, hence there is not much time and energy spent on it which results in the sets and location looking very run-of-the-mill kind. Unlike what you see on television abroad, the 'real' look is missing here.
Were you always inclined to act?
Never. It just started with a couple of film offers.
Your strengths?
My confidence and my optimism. I also have amazing will power and the ability to bounce back, no matter what comes my way.
Your weaknesses?
I'm a sucker for a sob story at any point of life. This gets me into a spot most of the times.
Any particular director you want to work with?
Gulzar, Kalpana Lajmi, Govind Nihalani, Shyam Benegal, Santosh Sivan and Govind Menon. I would love to work with them all.
Your philosophy of life?
Look for a silver lining in everything. You have to really dig hard for it, though.
Your belief...
I believe in God and I know that whatever happens, happens for the good. I also believe that if you really want something, you get it if you really want it from the bottom of your gut.
How do you see yourself five years from now?
Married with kids but I would definitely be working
